I was really inspired by Drumking's recent posts about all the nice crappie he has been catching so I decided to give it a try. I got on the water around 7:00 am and went to a couple of docks that have produced in the past. No luck at all, not even a hint of a bite. I tried different counts and then tried some bluffs with the same result. I was pretty discouraged. Now I know I'm no crappie whiz like Drumking or Polo but I thought I'd at least catch a few. After seeing the prime morning time go by without even a bite I considered going in when I thought I saw Jmax. I pulled over, but not too close and started bass fishing. After a while Jmax came close enough that he recognized me. He and fishinjunkie were fishing for fun and had done pretty good. They left the area and I focused on worm fishing the edge of some grass. I started catching fish and between that spot and one other I moved to, I managed to get 31 bass in the boat with 5 over 15". Nothing real big, just 5 good solid chunky fish. Around 12 pounds or so. Most of the other fish were solid 13 to 14" fish. I had a great time and caught all 31 on T-rigged junebug worms at a depth of 4' to 7' at the first place and from 6' to 20' deep at the second spot. I got all the fish in only 3 1/2 hours. Water clarity was very good and the temps were in the low 80's. The pleasure boaters got out in force and I came off the water around 1:45 pm. All in all a great day. I didn't catch any crappies, but the lesson is don't give up! It was great to see Jmax and Fishinjunkie and I also saw Ranger Rob. I didn't recognize Rob at first because he wasn't in the Ranger. He was in a kayak! Talk about downsizing.
