Headed out to do a little fishing this afternoon since it was overcast and the rain had stopped for a while. Got the boat in the water around 4:15pm and headed upstream to the dam. Lots of activity. Three boats but found some empty space to start fishing. Wind was up and nasty. emoRain Decided to throw some plastics but no takers! emoScratch Could see bait moving and being chased but no hookups. Sam then decided to switch rods and the rod locker slammed shut on one of my spinning rods - snapped it in two! Yikes! emoAngry emoBang Well after talking to the boys about not rushing and taking their time we went back to fishing. I decided to throw a green back and pearl white lipless crank and immediately hooked up on a 2 lber that skyed and threw the hook in the fast water. emoBang Kept at it and hooked up on a similar size fish about eight casts later slower the retrieve down and setting the hook harder put this one in the boat! emoSmile Saw a lot of splashes in the fast water so rigged some striper rigs and starting hooking up small stripers between 1/2 and 1 1/2 pounds. I just drove the trolling motor and let the boys have some fun. They did let dad catch one! emoSmile Sam hooked one and it was bleeding bad so he turned on the live well and threw it in only forgot to turn it off. So I am working the trolling motor in the front of the boat and Jack says Dad where is all that water coming from - huh?? Its about two inches deep in the foot well and rising. Holy bilge pump batman! Bilge pump not working! emoBang Reel in boys - time to get to the dock. Thank goodness the motor started with the batteries barely above water. Boat would barely plane. Any whoo got to the dock safely and that is what counts. Pretty good day despite all the stuff.
