Governor Schwarzenegger has signed SB 670, which immediately halted the practice of suction dredge mining until the California Department of Fish and Game develops and implements regulations to protect endangered species, water quality, and human health. The bill was strongly supported by Friends of the River, the Karuk Indian Tribe, and others. State Fish and Game wardens are immediately authorized to cite anyone illegally operating a suction dredge.
