[font "Times New Roman"]There are steelies in the PA streams right now. If you live any distance, I would wait 2 o 3 weeks for even more fish to enter the tribs. My first trips of every year start around the 2nd to 3rd week of October and I keep going up until March or so. Watch the weather and talk to veteran Steelheaders. If this will be your first time, get off of Rt. 79 and head west on Rt. 5, there you will find several tackle shops. Do what I did my first trip many years ago. Go into a tackle shop say ”this is my first trip. Where do I go and what do I do.” They will steer you where you need to be. Then talk to everyone who looks like he knows what he or she is doing. Lake Erie Steelhead fishing in my mine is the best fishing Pennsylvania has to offer…

" Lake Erie is generally not known to have a lot of steelhead" ??????

Lake Erie and its tributary streams is one of the most productive steelhead fisheries in the counrty. Look up Steelhead Alley and you will find out just how productive. Between Pa, Ohio, and New York there are over 4 million steelies stocked every year in Lake Erie tribs.

The steelies start running into the tribs in mid September and stay thoughout the winter. They will make their exodus back into the lake when the water warms in the spring and be cleared out by the end of April. Look for periods of warm weather in March to really get in on some great action. Fly and spin fishermen alike take advantage of this great fishing.

I live right on Lake Erie in the heart of Steelhead Alley. If I can be of help feel free to pm or e-mail me.
