so we were catching cats at hole 33 again with night crawlers and chovies. i put a worm on my hook and leaned down to wash my hands before casting and my hook dipped into the water and a sunfish bit it. i have never seen a sunfish there. after that my girlfriend switched to worm and caught a bunch more. it was kinda cool. and she got them in less than a foot of water too.

Pretty cool you probally found a school of them, I've got nice size bluegill at 33 hole and a lit bit further up the road at next turnoff at sunset view overlook using corn in the summer. What part of 33 hole do you fish the coves or do you cast out to deep water? thanks

I saw someone else said they saw goldfish up there. i seen one come after a spiiner up there but kept my mouth shut cause i didnt want to sound crazy sayin i saw a gold fish. but yeah thats its weird they are in there and doing good. i thought they were more of warm water fish.

I only have caught cat fish and little stripers at hole 33. I went to FLSP today an hour before closing and didnt catch anything. I had salmon pb and salmon eggs on one pole and was tossing a jakes n little half blue half chrome kast master on the other pole. I even flung a pistol pete under a bubble for nadda. I think it might have had a little nibble on it. I think the fish were freaked due to the people playing hard core metal for everyone at the pond to enjoy...

Thanks for the report nice pics. Those are baby green sunfish pretty cool. Personally I throw my spinners in the shallow coves, and cast my bait out deep for pretty fair action. I suggest buying some shad looking or these type of lures (see pic) and throw those out retrieve slowly and you should hook up. Or may I suggest chuming a bunch and try to switch up areas to lock on to the stripers. Last year I had best luck at hemenway pier with those lures and sardines.

I feel you man, FLSP has been bad to me this year. I made plenty of trips out there since the t stock and only caught 2 fish one being a cat both on nightcrawlers. Every time I went I gave it every thing I had different colors powerbait, trout lures, flies, lucky panther marten and nothing except fresh crawlers worked. The fish are under alot of pressure and are very weary to common tactics. They are out deep and are on the bottom although I did see a school swim by fairly close to shore. Early morning you can see them jumping up on the surface as soon as people start showing up they head out deep and hold to the bottom until its quiet again. Think about it during normal hours its shoulder to shoulder and everyone has two poles in the water including the children and family dog. People are there open till close throwing everything they can possibly find. Everytime I see people taking over the limit, riging 2+ hooks, chuming, littering, playing loud music and you name it there trying it. Your best bet is wait for the next stock head out there before the sun comes up rig up with nightcrawlers one on the bottom one with a bobber.

I have been out there about 4 times since the stocking started and have had 10 fish+ days every time I go. I miss more than half the fish that bite also.. About 90% of the trout I have been catching have all been 5-15 ft from shore. I was actually there this last friday for about 3 hours and had 3 fish in my first 6 casts. Of course I am fly fishing, so my tactics seem are a little differtent then the people using spinning tackle, but almost everytime I go I seem to zone in on em about 10-15 feet from shore with a 9 ft leader.
I did almost leave early do to the crowds. The weather has been way to nice. I cannot wait til its like 30 degrees in the morning and people start staying at home. Got into it with some kids this last trip also. I lost my fly and i walked 5 feet to my left to tie on a new fly at my tackle box, turn around and these 2 kids busted out folding chairs and jacked my spot that I had been fishing for almost an hour and half. I was not too happy about that..

I should invest in a fly rod [blush]. I tried the shoreline with joes flies and some bluefoxs just with no avail. I take my family there on weekends when it gets crazy, and I noticed all the fish that were being caught if any including the one I caught were caught out deep like 30 + ft out, and I didnt see any jumping shallow its my own observation. Last year I did well with the same tactics and this year nada I guess its to early to tell ill be out there this weekend ill post if theres any action.

ya i didn't see any fish jumping any of the times i have gone either. I dont use topwater/dry flies when I fish the ponds. I was fishing nymphs at 9 ft+ deep and that seems to be the ticket.

I am deffinately waiting till it cools down some more or going early mornings. It is way to crazy. Besides don't they stock a bit smaller fish the first couple stockings any ways? I think I want to try cold creek but I don't want to go all they way up there if its already fished out. It seems that those fish are under way less pressure and I may have a chance there :p
I should get into fly fishing too. Once your start fly fishing you never go back to bait ??? I think bait fishing is fairly boring but its nice for doing homework.

Actually I have caught some decent fish from these first stockings. I think they call em layover trout... its fish that were ready at the end of last season but never got delivered due to the end of the season. I caught one the first week that was pushing 15 inches and possibly the largest trout I have ever caught out of the local ponds.
As for fly fishing.. I can honestly say I have not touched a spinning rod since I started getting really into it.

lvrider - You should go to cold creek , there still are plenty of trout when I went. Just bring a buddy and be ready to hike unless you have 4x4. Go in the morning and throw any type of inline spinner and you should hook up.
sil240sxrwd - thanks for the info, ive done fairly well at coldcreek, sunset, willow, mead its just FLSP keeps stumping me [pirate] not to mention its far away from me. Oh well thats why its fishing not catching.

How do you get your spinners to cast out far enough? Like a meps for example right?

Check it out lvrider a mepps or joes fly are ultra light tackle. So you must have a ultra light rod/reel with light line to cast those babies or add split shots but it affects cast a little. They also sell heavy inline spinners.

something that i always have in my tackle box is this clear plastic bubble. i use it alot, especially when i lived in montana. you can use it different ways. i like to slide it on my line and twist the rubber inside to lock it where i want it. if you want more weight just open it and let some water in. i put a fly like 5-10 feet below it and nail the stocked trout at cold creek when nothin else was workin. i have used it to keep bait suspended off the bottom in slow moving rivers too with it. clear is good too cause fish dont see it.

I love using clear bubbles. I think it kills over bottom fishing. Well I guess it always depends on the situation. Maybe I will try the pistol pete again but with a lott more leader from the bubble. It makes it tricky to cast tho. I wonder If I could manage with 9ft of leader like some one said above that was working well for them.
