Pete Jr. and I went to St. George Island (SGI), Fla. for 3 days of fishing on Apalachicola Bay. Thursday and Saturday we caught a lot of spotted trout in 3-12 ft. of water mostly in the general area where the bridge to SGI crosses the navigation channel. We kept limits both days. The limit is 5 per person per day with a minimum size of 15 in. and only one over 20 in.). We caught them on Gulp Shrimps and live shrimp. The water temp. in the bay was about 62 degrees. The tide was incoming.

Our big day, or rather Pete's big day, was Friday. We made the run to Bob Sykes Cut, which is a man-made channel that cuts St. George Island in two (Big and Little SGIs). It connects the bay to the Gulf and is about 20 ft. deep. The fish use it as a highway. Pete started out catching a nice 25 in. keeper redfish on a live shrimp. The limit on reds is one/person/day with a slot limit of 18-27 in. Then he caught his personal best redfish of 32 in., 14.5 lbs., again on a live shrimp. I was running and controlling the boat and only caught some sheepshead. Then he latched on to the BIG ONE, a 40 in., 23 lb. redfish, his second PB of the day. He caught it on a sandtrout head. The tide was incoming and the ocean water was about 67 degrees.

Needless to say, we got pretty fired up, it was a great trip! Again, congrats on your PB redfish, Pete!
