I am going to have to visit that lake some day.On a trip throught Austin the other day a met a man at a gas station pulling a huge cigar type boat with a fancy paint job.I talked to him a little about it. I said he had a slip at canyon lake. The boat was 42 feet long and had three 455 hp inboard motors.I said would it run about 80 mph and he said more like 100 mph.Iv'e never tried or caught a fish running that fast but I bet it woulod be tricky. LOL

Good report

Game:

You'll see very few of the boats you described on Canyon Lake. Even this time of year. Lake Travis is more conducive and appealing to people whose taste run to the absurd. Admittedly, Canyon has it's fair amount of recreational watercraft, but not the barges that you ran across.

If it's fishing that appeals to you rather than showy, crusing usually done in a "My toy's the biggest, so get out of my way" fashion, hold off on your trip here until after Labor Day. By mid-October, fishermen are regaining control of their favorite areas. On the other hand, there's not a thing wrong with the fishing right now, if you're not intimidated with finesse techingues and the tackle that goes with them. You just have to be familiar enough with the lake's structure, the seasonal patterns of fish and know how to fish in deep, "gin" clear water., Or brave enough and know the upper Guadalupe River well enough to run it at or before sunrise. Our best summertime catches are coming WAY up the river. It's like a float trip, with plenty of flora and fauna to make an enjoyable trip.
