Lead Tackle Swap

BLOOMINGTON, MN--The Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are working with retailers and conservation and outdoors groups to offer voluntary lead tackle exchanges this summer.

More than 17 lead tackle exchanges, in which anglers can bring lead sinkers and jigs to trade for non-lead tackle, are scheduled throughout the state.

The program is part of Minnesota's recently passed Omnibus Game and Fish Bill, which has provisions aimed at educating anglers about non-lead alternatives.

This is in lieu of a bill that was proposed, then later withdrawl earlier this year that had called for a total ban on using lead tackle weighing an ounce or less.
