Louie B, Carters Lake, 5lb Spotted Bass, 01.22.09, Bill Payne

Fishing has made a complete turn around to what it was earlier this month. The water temps have creeped back up into the mid-upper 40's close to the mainlake. The backs of most creeks are still 44 and lower. It looks like Carters is finally in turnover which isn't helping the bite at all. The water is cloudy and in every creek I marked air/bubbles w/ the graph everywhere. Turnover normally happens in mid-late December on Carters but, the heaviest water is @ 38 degrees, it took longer for us to get into the low 40's than usual.

The FnF bite is completely non existent for us right now. We fished some excellent areas without a single pulldown this morning. We also fished a few brush piles w/ out a bite on fishheads, jigs or worms. I've been able to catch fish sight fishing the past couple of trips. Most of the sight fish are suspended around 35-50ft deep. I was fortunate to boat my biggest sight fishing spot of the 2010 season today w/ the dropshot. The spot weighed 5.05 on Cul-m-Rites and 5lb even on X-Tools. It was suspended by it's self in 35ft over a 50ft bottom. We fished from 8am-2pm, boating around 10 spots. No Carp today, for Bill and I thats rare. We've been putting a hurtin on Gold Fish.

If anyone is interested in getting out to learn your electronics better I've got a few days available. The bite is slow but if you're patient and don't mind moving a lot it is a producer.

here is the pic of 5.05

LB
