Fished the second Choo-Choo Division tournament today on Guntersville. 176 boats partcipated. We launched out of Guntersville State Park, which meant if you wanted to fish the northern part of the lake, you had a long, kidney bruising ride. My Boater, Scott Ridley from Stevenson, Alabama, and I started our day in a creek channel break near Mink Creek. I believed Bprice's report earlier this week and started off fishing a Carolina rigged Hula Popper. After a few minutes and no bites, I was asking myself if my longtime friend was just pulling our leg. Decided to switch to a Texas rigged Zoom Trick Worm with good results. Had 4 keepers in the boat the first hour, then nothing but keeper wannabes for the next hour. We ran to some main lake grass for a couple of hours with no luck. Ran back to our original spot to finish out the day. Managed to catch my 5th and final keeper, also on the Trick Worm. Scott was fishing for the big bite and never put down the jig. He managed only 2 keepers but released them before weigh-in. I ended up with right at 15 lbs and a 15th place finish, which put me in 3rd place overall on the Co-Angler side after two tournaments. Congratulations to Tim Cody of Cleveland for claiming 1st place on the Co-Angler side by cranking up over 25 lbs. His Boater also finished 1st on the Boater side with a shade over 27 lbs. They had almost 53 lbs between them. Water temps never got above 48 degrees. Wind and rain were a constant companion making for a miserable day to fish. Main lake areas were slightly stained but the backs of the creeks were muddying up fast. They had a hailstorm down there yesterday (Friday) that covered the ground 2 inches deep everywhere you looked.
