Finally got on the water with my crappie fishing partner JBurns. We have usually had several trips by this time of year, but for the first trip it went pretty well. Got on the water (Hwy 58 ramp) by 7am and left around 1pm. We had 17 keepers and probably 50 fish altogether. Burns usually wears me out, but it was pay back time today. I think my four pound test line made a big difference today to my advantage. I came close to a limit and could have gotten there but Burns had plans for the evening. Lost some huge fish that was neither a catfish nor a crappie. Made a last run near the boat and broke my line. Story of my life this season. Not sure what it was.

Water was still a little stained but not too bad. Best colors were black grub with chartruese glitter tail, and my wild pink 1/32oz tied fly. Biggest fish came on it as usual. They love that thing. I need to contact Monkey Town Jigs to see if he can duplicate it. I lost one today and only have two left.

Fish were from 4' to 8' deep over 10' depth bottoms near main creek channels in the sloughs. Water temp was around 50 degrees and rising. Water was slick all day, so I was surprised we did as well as we did. Wind picked up just as we left for home.

Told Burns about this forum so he may check it out. Didn't get any photos. Biggest fish was probably only 12". Other fisherman seemed to be having worse luck than us from what I gather from cell phone calls and fishing ramp chatter.
