We fished yesterday afternoon, what a great afternoon weatherwise. The fishing was only so, so. I had been out for about an hour trying to figure out a pattern that would work. I had found a brushpile with some small fish but nothing else. I didn't leave WT as I didn't know exactly when Jim and Ben would call. I picked Ben up and we tried a few more things not finding much. Too muddy in WT. We picked Jim up and went off to find clearer water. The water at the far end of the creek was better and we stopped at a brushpile and caught a few fish at an outside creek bend. We ran out of the creek and found better color. We fished a shallow spawning flat and only caught one fish there. We fished some nearby docks that had a couple of 13 plus inch white crappie which was interesting as I rarely catch whites. We fished a community dock, another two or three spawning flats with no more fish. We ran back before dark but the fishing was a bit rough. I've lost touch with the fish, there are huge numbers of fish that I would assume are crappie holding over flats that are 9-12 feet deep. It was similar last spring when the fish left winter holding areas and suspended out from spawning areas. Trolling might be the best way to catch numbers right now but I think with another few hours out there we'll find some groups of fish that aren't suspended. It will be better in the creek every day that we don't get heavy rain too as the clearing will come.
