drumking, chickamauga, bass, 3/29/10, Labman

Labman and I headed up to striper waters this morning to see if we could catch some fish. We landed 5 smallmouth bass (3.0), about 6 or 7 big white bass, one 27" drum by Norman, 3 spotted bass, and hooked 8 stripers. 3 parted ways with my hook and line. Of the 5 that we actually landed, the smallest was 7 1/4 lbs and the largest landed was 12 1/4 lbs. I kept two for the grill and we released all the rest of the fish except one nice spotted bass (my favorite eating fish).

We caught our fish on current breaks and we were using 1/8 oz jigheads because of the lack of flow this morning. We barely saw the first fish this morning but I had it on for about 10 minutes or more as it nearly spooled my reel. Put the trolling motor in rabbit gear and chased the fish until I gained quite a bit of line back. It kept making long runs and when it finally came up where we could see it, the jig finally pulled out of his mouth. We both estimated it to be in the 20 lb range. emoBang I don't know which one was the more relieved, me or the fish. The 2nd fish of the day felt just as heavy and after a 2 or 3 minute fight and him pulling drag, the line parted ways and the fish was lost. I had one more fish break off later in the AM. Norman showed off and never did break off any fish.

This is just a fishing tale as I forgot to bring my camera today and Norman didn't bring his either. emoSorry Norman, we had a great time. Thanks for going with me on such short notice. We will do this again soon. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
