ok, here's my first ever fishing report on here. My friend Jim and I took the first trip of the year arriving at CF ramp at about 8:00 and running downriver to fish some of the pockets on the sunny side toward the dam. We started fishing at the first pocket just above the first major slough below Pinky's Point (I forget the name of it but it has numerous docks and houses (big'uns) in it (oh to be so rich) and fished on into the big slough. We'd heard about catches on jerkbaits so we started with those and caught our first two bass on it but they were running small. We went to small shallow running cranks and still - just small bucks. I went to a tube and started picking up a little better fish. My partner switched to a tube too (watermelon) but back lashed (didn't adjust when he changed) so rather than spend a lot of time not fishing I told him to use one of mine that was already rigged, so I pulled out a rod that had a 8-inch Zoom magnum worm on it in red shad. I said to change it to the tube but he said no, he'd just fish with the red shad worm rather than just waste it. On his second cast with it a 2-1/2 pounder nailed it. We both went to red shad Zooms then and caught the rest of our fish on them. Nothing huge, but a few nicer fish up to 2-1/2 pounds. The nicer fish seemed to be at the very back of various pockets. I expect better and better days ahead. In all we caught 12 bass - fairly slow fishing by my standards, but we missed several others. Interesting that our best fish came on the red shad worm, which we would neither one have thrown except for his back lash and rod change (rather be lucky than good). I'm such a soft plastic fisherman I was only too glad to be able to catch some using a texas rigged worm. After 56 years I'm kind of set in my ways!!! Had a great time and am looking for better days ahead!
