Holiday Reflections
#1
Well, I spent 4 days on a small brown trout stream in the Uinta Basin. I prefer not to mention the water (sorry), but rest assured there are many like it in the Basin. The fly rod wasn't working well, or maybe it was me, so I used the spinner rip technique. On the first night in camp, I caught 40 brown trout with the largest going 20 inches. Kayote II managed 3 browns pushing 20 all by himself over the 4 days. Not bad for a twelve year old. My 15 year old daughter refused to fish. She used to love fishing when she was young, but lost interest when she discovered boys. Can't win them all. My friend gets the prize for the largest fish at 22 inches. It was an absolutely wonderful outing. I got the award for the smallest fish when a 1 inch sculpin completely slammed my Panther Martin and proceeded to dominate my Shimano drag LMAO (see pic). I only got one actual fish picture of a smaller brown because I was too busy catching to photograph the big boys. Sorry for the blurry fish pic. Ate too much, had great company and family time and slept under the stars. Life is very very good. FYI all fish were released except for that unfortunate sculpin. We had enough to eat from the dutch ovens. I forgot that those dutch oven taters sit on your stomach like a rock (burp). In the pic with Kayote II on the log, he caught a twenty inch brown seconds after I snapped the photo. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend too.

Your pictures tell it all. Great memories you are forming for your son. I can remember fishing The Fremont River with my parents like it was yesterday, and it was over 40 years ago.

Thanks for the great report, Kayote. You and I talk about skills, but you and I don't have the skills that Kayote II has and he is only 12.[Wink] Is that where I think it is. I wanted to come out to the basin for the 24th but had to work.

Kent,

Thanks for the kind words. My son is a natural. All he wants to do is fish and hunt. I have no idea where he gets it. I too can remember those family outings as a child like it was yesterday. I can't seem to remember the name of people I met yesterday, but I can clearly recall every fish I've ever caught and all the details surrounding it. Funny, guess I should eat more fish LOL (did you see that alzheimer's report on eating fish?). It's funny the things that are important over time and the things that aren't. Family memories are more valuable than gold.

Tincan,

Yes, that's where you think it is. We should go sometime this fall. How's the house hunt going?. I wish you the best of luck in your search my friend. FYI I just put in for another job in Cordova Alaska. Too cool. If I get lucky and land the job, you'll have to come up on a budget halibut/salmon trip. I'm always counting my chickens before they hatch. Or should I say caribou. Can you imagine Yakking with killer whales. Hehehe. Later

Good Fishing, Kayote
