Troutfly and I went fishing specifically to catch crappie with a fly rod. I had no flies but Josh had a bunch of great ones. I picked a chartreuse and white clouser pattern and caught one on my first cast to my favorite brushpile. The crappie weren't really all that active it seemed tonight but we did catch a few on flies and I tried a PA at some docks. I did make one good cast under a dock with the fly rod and caught one there but for the most part I couldn't get good casts under the docks. I was fishing a sinking line and as always it was a pain to cast. troutfly is really good with a fly rod but I did struggle. We did fish a couple of spawning flats with the flyrods and did catch a few fish there. We caught a couple of nice very black black crappie. troutfly said he had never seen the crappie when they were so black in color. It was a lot of fun to catch crappie on a fly and we brainstormed about how we can make our presentations better and also fish for some bass later in the year on the fly. I'm really glad that you were able to get out there with me Josh and hopefully we will be able to get out there again soon. troutfly has a pic. We'll post it later.
