John and I got out together for the first time this year to chase some spotted bass at the Riverpark. We found them to be very inactive. We only landed 40 and had about 15 jump off including our bigger fish. One goggle eye, 1 big crappie and 1 channel cat completed our catch.

I have my family from Louisiana coming in this afternoon and so we are having a spotted fish fry. I kept 18 spots plus the crappie for our dinner.

The bass hit like a crappie today. Very soft bites and the fish were off the banks unlike all the other times that I have been down there this year. These fish are all sore mouthed I guess between me and MrWiskers. emoBig
Only one blowup on a topwater lure today and I guess that is because of the high skies and sunshine. We caught our fish on tiny flukes for a while, but the hottest lure was a 2" curly tail grub that had a chartreuse tail. 1/16 oz jigs made for a very slow fall and the fish seemed to like this better than a faster retrieve. John and I adjusted to the mood of the fish. John had a good fish pull off after a short fight at one of the bridge pilings.

We saw Dragfish downthere and he was fishing one piling and we were on another piling and I saw him scrambling for his net. We watched him finally net a beautiful smallmouth bass that was 18.5 inches long and 3 lb 2 oz. I took his pic for the forum. I had to get off the water at 10:15, so John called his brother to come fish with him a while longer. I'll try to do better next time, John. I really enjoyed our time together today. I'm already looking forward to our next trip. emoBig
