American Fishing Series On Kentucky/Barkley Lakes
#1
GILBERTSVILLE, Kentucky - The FLW American Fishing Series is headed to Kentucky/Barkley lakes May 13-15 for the third of three stops in the Central Division series. As many as 300 pro and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $25,000 plus a Ranger boat with an Evinrude or Yamaha outboard motor and up to $15,000, respectively.

"Right now, it's a big unknown because we've got unbelievable conditions with the rain they've seen in Nashville," said FLW Tour pro Dan Morehead of Paducah, Ky. "We've still got 10 days or so to go, and if we don't get any more rain, it could be a good tournament.

"You've really got to work for the fish right now," Morehead added. "Local knowledge will really come into play in this tournament because you've got to know where the old brush line is. It's just a big 'What if?' You've just got to keep watching the lake level and see what it's doing."

Anglers will take off from Moors Resort and Marina located at 570 Moors Rd. in Gilbertsville, Ky., at 6 a.m. each morning. Thursday and Friday's weigh-ins will be held at Moors Resort and Marina beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday's weigh-in will be held at Country Chevrolet located at 104 W. 5th St. in Benton, Ky. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Kentucky/Barkley lakes American Fishing Series tournament is being hosted by the Marshall County Tourist Commission.

Pros will fish for a top award of $25,000 plus a 198VX Ranger boat with 200-horsepower outboard if Ranger Cup guidelines are met. Co-anglers will cast for a top award of $10,000. If the co-angler meets the Ranger Cup guidelines, they will earn an additional $5,000.

The American Fishing Series consists of four divisions - Central, Northern, Southeast and Texas. Each division will consist of three tournaments and competitors will be vying for valuable points that could earn them a trip to the American Fishing Series Invitational on Wheeler Lake in Decatur, Ala., Nov. 4-6. The points champion from each division will qualify for the 2011 Forrest Wood Cup and a fifth Forrest Wood Cup qualifier will advance from the Invitational that is open to the top 50 anglers from each division.
