First Spring in Boise
#1
Hi everyone, just moved here back in August following my job and haven't been able to start fishing till about a 2 months ago. Although we have had "some" luck overall my fishing experience has been pretty lousy. I've probably driven 1000 miles within that time period looking for some good holes with not much luck. I live in SE Boise and keep hearing that the river through town is a good spot but I've only had limited success partly I'm sure since its been a little blown out.

Have driven out to CJ a couple of times but unless you like dam fishing it appears you need a boat. Did rather well on the snake by swan falls this last weekend with 7-8 smallies and a couple carp which helped shake things up, but I have always loved trout/steelie/salmon coming from coastal Oregon. I'm not ooking for any secrets (I know the rules) but rather some no BS directions or perhaps even a fishing buddy to drink some beers with.

I suggest you spend a little time exploring the C.J. Strike area. There is some great access near Loveridge Bridge (off Highyway 51), near Crane Falls and Cove Arm, also at the Narrows and Cottonwood Sportsman's Access Areas. Cascade Lake is a good spring area for bank fishing. I would look at the areas around Crown Point. Stop in Tackle Tom's in Cascade and buy some worms or something and they will steer you in the right direction.

This forum is a wealth of information and I would suggest spending some time going through some of the posts. There are tons of great fishing options within a 90 minute drive of Boise and it is difficult to provide a general overview. The best fishing over the next month is going to be warmwater species. If you want to go after trout, you can fish in the local ponds and lakes until the rivers come down. If you have a specific question, please feel free to send me a private message and I will try to help. And please share your experiences. Good luck.

I appreciate your responses, I kinda figured river fishing right now would be spotty at best with the river flows like they are. The CJ advice should be really useful as both my wife and I really enjoyed ourselves out there just weren't having any luck, I'll be sure to include any updates now that we're planning on a trip out there this weekend. Thanks again!!
