SOOOOOO Close.....less then a pound from getting a check. emoBawl Me and Colby had a great day of catching and fishing. I really do not know what we could have done different. The plan worked like a charm with a couple adjustments. The other day when Colby and I got on a great bite there was a lot of current. The best bait was a pig and jig combo. Today there was no current and it seemed the river was going backwards. We knew the bass were still there but they would not chase and would not hit a jig.

First spot we did catch a couple on a crank but after five minutes I knew it was not working well, needed to change. None of those were keepers. Picked up a drop shot, slowed way down and started slaying them. In twenty minutes we had a limit. It would have weighed about 8.5 lbs but all of them were to be culled by the end of the tournament. We were sitting in 30 feet and casting up to about 12 feet. When it dropped off the ledge they nailed it. emoBigSmile I bet we caught 20 to 25 bass doing this. Most were keepers and most were made in the same mold. emoScratch With the bass still biting we left to find some bigger fish. Hit a bluff and up graded one bass there on a blade. Gave us about nine pounds. Moved there and hit a favorite point but if they were there they were not biting. Not even one. emoScratch I think that place needs current. Moved to a large flat hump and trying blades, swims and cranks. Had a couple but only one three to up grade. Now we had about 10.5. Went back to the drop shot and started hitting better fish. Up graded two or three more and boated another 15 or so bass. Spent a while there and thought we had about 13 lbs. now. Moved to another area that was about 13 to 17 feet with docks and brush. Found some good ones there. Colby got one a little over four and I up graded two more. Caught another 15 or so there with most of them keepers but we were cursed with 15 to 16.5 fish which did not help us. emoRolleyes Two of our bass were looking rough but I added ice and stay alive. They seemed to perk up. I caught another that was about 2.75 and thought about changing one of them out that was about three. It still looked good with only about 45 minutes left so I did not. emoTskTsk Bad idea. All those bass in there we were catching on a shakey. Ran out of time and headed in. At that time they were all alive.

Got to the weigh in and was the first in line. Had to wait about 15 minutes for the officers to weigh in and when I got up to the check station the one I had worried about had died. emoDoh Our fish weighed in at 15 and a 1/4 pounds but we had a 1/2 pound penalty for the dead one. There was a lot of great sacks weighed in and 27 something won it. emoEek

We got first in the Junior division and would have had 21st overall but the one dead put us back to 27th. I think there was about 80 boats. emoThumbsup We had a great time and 16.09 got a check. If we had just had one more good one to upgrade a pound we would have had a check. emoSorry Still had a great time catching over 50 bass and my thumbs are torn up so bad they are bleeding.

Really had a great time with Colby...maybe next time we can move up one more pound and get a check. emoToast

Water temp was 83, no current or wind until around noon then the wind picked up. Bass mostly were deep for us from 12 to 35 feet. Caught them on a bunch of baits,....cranks, drop shots, blades, worms and shakeys.

C-ya on the water. emoAngler Jmax
