Got a couple of neighborhood kids out of bed this morning to try some crappie fishing. I took them out once last year, and this is their first trip in 2010. I taught them to shoot docks last year, but had to refresh the lessons a bit this time. They soon got it going. Kids learns fast. We tried a variety of places, deep docks, bluffs, vertical structure and one open water spot. Fish were deep as usual and I had the boys using 1/16 jig with BG Shad and yellow tubes to get down to the fish.

We caught a few and missed a lot at each stop, having a lot of fun trashing each others fishing ability. The big fish prize was a bowl of Judies homemade ice cream. By 9:30 attention had begun to wane and both had eaten all their lunches of 2 sandwichs each, cookies, candy, chips, etc. Glad I don't have to feed growing boys every day, lol. We quit about 10:30 with 27 crappie, largest about 13" +, 1 fair spotted bass, and 1 gill.

Think everyone had a good time and the guide was wore out from untangling, retieing, etc. Time to go home for a nap.

Regards, Labman
