EricM, Chick, a few L'il blue cats, 6-21-10
#1
The lovely Mrs. EricM had to go to the airport early this morning so I hooked up the boat and went to the river. With the grabblers doing so well on the spawning flatheads, I thought that the blue cats would be back deep and out in force again. NOT.
I wandered all over the nuke area looking for a few fish. Not a single fish from 7 am until about 9:45. Then I hit three 5 to 7 pound blues in 15 minutes, went fishless again for half an hour, and caught one more before I packed up and left at about 11:00 am. The breeze was perfect and the day was comfortable at that time. I watched and talked with others and very few fish were taken there again. Looks like they haven't drifted out of the shallows yet.
On the way back to the ramp, the motor suddenly started to rev and the speed dropped dramatically and the boat came off of plane. I was afraid that something had happened to the prop or insert, and I tilted the motor way up and saw no problem. when I again put it in gear, there was no problem at all and it worked great all the way back. I obviously picked up something on the lower unit that caused the prop to cavitate and dropped it off when I shut down or when I tilted the motor up. Strange!
