Southbbound Key West fishing report
#1
We’ve been Yellow Tail Snapper Fishing for most of the past two weeks because that’s what’s been biting. Most days we’re getting our limit or close to it. The action has been great and with the exception of a day or two, the seas have been calm.

We’ve had a couple of Shark trips in the last week also. The lemon sharks have been very, very cooperative, God bless ‘em. Most of the sharks have been in the 50-100 lb range. That’s a pretty nice fight from a stationary boat on 30lb tackle.

Still No OIL in the Keys and I don’t think we’re going to get any. The winds for the next 2-4 months will be predominately out of the East or South and this will keep pushing the surface oil up away from the Keys. The Gulf Stream is way offshore, (which is why we’re not catching any Dolphin), so any oil that does come out of the Gulf will be swept past the Keys and up the coast. The big concentrations of oil that are down deep are in 2,000 ft of water. They are not going to rise up to the shallow waters of the Keys. The loop current and the Gulf Stream don’t run that deep, so the currents won’t be pushing the deep oil out of the Gulf.
