Got to the Riverpark around 5pm and started out fishing the slack water behind the wing wall. Nada, zip, nothing.... decided to drift the current from the discharges and switched over from artificials to some minnows we brought with us. Picked up a couple of small blues cats and a tiny SM. We were hoping to get into the catfish this evening and since there were a couple of boats already running to the dam and drifting back down to the RR trestle and we didnt want to crowd anyone we left and started hunting deeper holes along the main river channel down river. We had decent success, but not until we got about a mile down river. There was a really deep hole and we had a couple of bites as we drifted through, but the action really started at what I would call the "tailout" section of the hole, in around 13 to 16 FOW. From the end of the deeper hole to approximately 300 yards down stream it was almost constant action. Mostly tiny blue cats, with the occasional spot or SM. Also caught 2 goggle eyes, a drum, a huge shellcracker, and a couple of bull bream. Water temps were 85-87 at the dam and were around 84 where we were fishing farther down river. None of the fish would be considered large by anyone's standard but were alot of fun. The last hour before dark I tried to find some larger fish but all I did was show that I dont have a clue what the heck I am doing LOL. I went back upriver to the deeper hole we had found and made a few drifts though it with some cutbait. I did catch the largest fish of the day, a nice Channel cat (around 20 - 22 inches) that got my heart pounding the way he loaded up the rod, fooled again. I tried to stick to the channel edges and elevation changes on the bottom that were showing to be holding baitfish, trying to find larger fish but no luck. Anyone got any feedback on what I could be doing different in trying to locate some of the larger cats?

At the end of the day we had a good time and caught a few fish, I did not keep an accurate total but somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 fish total.

Oh, and Drumking, I will be bringing that Hummingbird 565 back to you tomorrow on Thursday.
