Pointer and I had been talking about going fishing for about 2 years and today was the day. Put in at HBSP and rode upriver to some ledges I had been doing good on the past few weeks. Waste of time. We ended up boating 2 short LM, 2 drum and a white bass. Marked a ton of fish as usual, but they would not eat. All fish were caught on dropshot minnows.
Left there and headed back down river to fish my favorite shell beds. Jerry took first blood with a short LM on a jig. A few minutes later I get our first keeper on a powerminnow. A short while later I get another keeper on the powerminnow, this time a nice 3lber. About 2 casts later and I boat our third keeper on the DS powerminnow. That was it for the shell beds.
Made a move to deep water point and Jerry puts two chunky LM in the boat on a jig, both keepers with the largest going around 2.5 lbs. That was it for the deep water point.
Moved out to one of Jerry's favorite night time humps that he never fishes in the day. About 5 minutes of fishing the hump Jerry sets the hook. I think he is hung up when he says "That one has some shoulders!!!". Up comes what looks like a 5 lber. Ended up being our best fish of the day at 4.4 lbs. Very healthy, chunky fish. Fish came on the jig as well in about 16 feet. Bet Jerry will start fishing there in the daytime after that fish.
Just before dark we moved to some grass. Ended up getting 3 shorts and Jerry lost a keeper at the boat out of the grass. Pretty slow. Hit one more spot and got a goose egg so we loaded up at 10:30 and left.
Not a bad day on the water considering what has been winning the dogfights lately. Our best 3 would have went 9.5-10 lbs and out best 5 would have went around 13.5 lbs. Slow but steady evening with just enough action to keep you going. We boated 12 bass with 6 keepers total.
Thanks for riding with me tonight Jerry, it was fun.
