drumking, Tims Ford, Walleye and "Rockfish", 7/28/10, Bent Rod and Labman
#1
Norman and I had the distinct pleasure of fishing with Bent Rod today at the Tims for Walleyes. We did the fishing, Rick did the catching. emoBigSmile Nothing like a little "home" cooking. We did learn a great lesson today. Have the right equipment and lures if you want to catch Walleyes.

The Walleyes were finicky today. Not very aggressive like they have before according to our guide, Bent Rod. We got started just at first light this AM and it didn't take Rick long to land our first eye. Then a nice smallie. Then another eye or two, maybe three. Then the old timer, DK got in on the fun. Landed his only fish of the morning. A nice Walleye that went home with him. I also hooked up a very big fish for just about 3 or 4 seconds and found some slime on my line when I got the lure back. Trashy slimy EricM fish. Then one more eye that he only got about 1/3 of the way back to the boat before it said sayonara.

Norman and I both had several bites that we just couldn't hook up and it made us look like rookies. Norman isn't a rookie when it comes to walleyes. He used to guide for them in Canada. But he said the eyes in Canada were easy pickings. Not the dead sea eyes though. emoBigSmile Rick landed a fish at just about every spot that we tried. I think that they were his pets. emoBigSmile

Finally at one of the last spots that we tried, Rick yelled 'get the net' this is a good one. Norman scrambled for the net, waited patiently as the fish moved back and forth as Rick fought this with great expertise. It was a true Tims Ford "rock" fish. Check out the pics. Rick tried to bribe me to not post these pics, but you know me. Old DK just has to have some fun with everyone. emoBigSmile

We were using blade baits and fishing offshore structure in the 20+ range. Quite a few fish breaking just out of casting range as we were fishing for the walleyes. Some of them were hybrids, I'm sure. Rick, thanks for the hospitality and your patience with Labman and me. He even had to give us the hot lure or we would have been skunked. I owe you and Bill a couple of crappie trips and you can collect them anytime that you want. Just give us a pm. emoBigSmile emoGeezer

Total fish landed: 7 walleyes, 1 smallie.
