Wow, so we kept track of how many kokanee we hooked as compared to how many we landed, we got 8 to the boat out of 35 hooked. Had brand new double hooks, running dodgers and wedding rings. Even tried doubling up on snubbers.....looked like everyone else was having the same problem. Out of the 8 fish we got to the boat, only one was starting to color up, the rest were bright and firm.
What GIVES?

Not sure what's up with that. The only problem I've had with hook ups is a fishing partner that can't break the habit of "setting the hook" coming off the DR. If you're losing them while releasing from the DR then I'd say that might be one problem.
I have ultra light kokanee rods that help and very small release clips. When we get a take down I just begin to reel up and try not to jerk against the release clip.
If you're losing them later after they've come off the DR it still may be the quality or surety of your initial hook up?
Other than the above problems I've been through there are also those days when they just don't stick...

Are you cutting the trolling motor when you are reeling in the fish? That will elimate quite a bit of drag on the fish. They are SO tender lipped.......

We're using Daiwa Kokanee rods-super noodley, and we don't really "set" the hook; sometimes you gotta give it a yank to get it off the clip, but most fish are coming off when they're about halfway in.
I didn't think about cutting the trolling motor, I'd have to completely turn it off because we're trolling so slow to begin with. That's a good point, though, I'll try that next time and see if it helps.

We had the same problem last time. The Apex was the worst; I have always had poor ratios with them. Best percentage was with micro hootchies. What was really frustrating was two nearby boats that didn't even have nets. Just swung 'em in; didn't lose one that we saw! We have been loosening the drag to the extreme. I don't want to slip it in neutral with d/r's out. We just drop it down all the way. Set the drag so it even plays out part of the time with an 11-12"er. Should help. That and snubbers, of course.
