I can't set if my life depended on it
#1
I really got into fishing this summer and the pond by house holds a lot of nice bass. One day i'll catch a good amount and then the next day I'll have a good 12 bites, but i wont pull up anything. I've been trying different setting techniques, but I dont know if im setting too hard or too light. Any videos you guys might know about that might help me or if you guys have any suggestions. thanks.

When you miss a hookup, sometimes the fish are just mouthing it instead of being aggresive. Slow down and let the fish eat it. You might be suprised that it was a rockfish not a largemouth. Count to five as you reel down.

gdn443 said it well. Setting the hook honestly just takes time and practice. I've fished my whole life and still miss a few fish now and again. You literally have to feel the fish. I don't know if you are getting anxious, but sometimes if you are using a lure with a hook a good ways from the tail, the fish will just be a tail biter and you will pull it out of its mouth. Just feel the fish and let it take the lure. Wait till it has your line tight and is bending the tip, then it usually has it pretty good. just fish a lot, you'll get a hang of it.
