Picked up Kathy at Chester Frost today after work. We thought about fishing Hank's dogfight but Kathy had never caught a fish on a drop shot so we decided to just fun fish tonight.
First stop was the shell bed point I like to fish and it did not take long to break the ice. I caught the first bass, a nice keeper around 2.25 lbs. I got the 2nd bass up the boat and was about to lip it when it went nuts and broke off (bad line from Sunday, should have re-tied). It would have went around 2.5 lbs. While I was re-tieing, Kathy sets the hook on another nice keeper bass around 2.5 lbs. Her first drop shot bass. I ended up catching one more keeper and we decided to look for more active fish. All fish were caught on drop shot Gulp minnows (what else?).
Hit a mid lake hump and got a big fat zero. Hit the 30 ft ditch me and Polo did well on Sunday and got a big fat zero.
We decided to go back to the shell bed point. Kathy's friend joined us in his boat (forgot his name, sorry). We managed to get two yellow stripe and Kathy lost a nice 2.5 lber at the boat on a jigging spoon just as I was going to lip it.
I let Kathy off in her friends boat and decided to head in early. Got to HBSP and noticed a bunch of grass on the point going in. Could not help myself, so I broke out the spook. On about my 3rd cast I miss a good blow up. About 5 minutes later I boat a really long (18-19&quot
bass that weight about 2.25 lbs. Very skinny. Got one more short on the spook and called it a night.
Not a terrible trip. Low numbers but decient quality. Had we been in the tourny I would have had my net and would have easily boated the two we lost. Our best 3 would have went around 7.5 lbs so will be interesting to see how the guys in the dogfight did. The wind was pretty strong out of the north west tonight so not the best conditions but we managed to get a few and Kathy now knows how to drop shot.
