Dr Phil and I took Phil's new friend, Gary Waters, out for a morning of crappie fishing and introduce him to dock shooting. First time ever for dock shooting for Gary. After giving him a quick lesson on how to hold the jig and flex the rod before pointing and releasing the jig, it was no time before he was making 8 foot casts. All the while, Phil and I were shooting jigs about 15-20 feet back under the first dock that we came to and were catching crappie. Gary couldn't get the jig to the edge of the dock initially.

I ask for his rod to see if it was the rod or him. After shooting the jig about 25-30 feet back under the dock, I informed Gary that it was him and not the rod. emoPoke emoBig
It took a while, but he finally caught on to the technique and was shooting the jig out there pretty good.

We had a great morning for crappie fishing. 33 total of which 20 were 11" or better and we let Gary have all these fish to take home. Gary's wife, Jane, loves to eat fish so I know that she will be happy with the catch of the day.

We caught the fish on mostly 1.5" stubby butts in both crystal shad and salt/pepper colors with chartreuse tail lights. Later on in the morning, I did tie on a Bayou Boogie 2" BG shad and caught a couple of nice keepers with that color as well. Gary caught 1 bluegill to go along with a couple of crappie that finally committed suicide on his rod/reel/lure presentations.

We had to dock hop a lot to get our totals. Just a couple of fish on each dock. We did finally catch about 6 or 7 keepers under one dock and the last dock that we tried before running out of time produced 3 crappie in about 1 minute and was only 5 feet deep. Surprising to me to say the least. Most of the fish were on deeper docks and about a 6-8 count deep. I caught the only trashy green fish of the day. 3 spotted bass which were released after a good
lashing. emoBig
emoGeezer We were on the water from 7:15 til 10:45.

Gary is a great guy and funny guy as well. It was an entertaining AM to say the least. I'm almost afraid to meet his wife, if she is as mean as he says that she is. emoPoke emoBig
