Made a plan to hit the water late last night, called to see if a could different folks wanted to tag along, no takers, so just me Storm and mom hit the water at day break.
Got 9 baited rods out by 7:30ish and started getting lots of small fish pecking at the baits. We were in a deep hole were a creek dumps into the main river. 25-30" FOW here. Finally hung a fish and Storm laned a nice 18lb blue. She seems stuck on that number, she really was hoping to get a new PB this year. The small fish were driving me nuts so we moved to spot number two, its a steep channel ledge on a very slight bend in the river. I marked some BIG fish here, started getting rods out and before I could get them all out a rod went down, but it pooped loose, no fish. emoBang we stayed there longer than I would have otherwiase, but the sonar had me excited. It was getting hot now and Storm was ready to go, but i had one more place to try on my wish list. Sonar was showing lots of fish suspended, but trying to drift with this crew on suspended fish was out, so again we anchored up and waited. A 7lb cat commited and Storm was staring to really get bumber wth all the small fish. Next rod down, felt good when I plucked it out and handed it to her, very good fight and she came up with her First JR HOF Blue cat at 36lbs. emoApplause

By this time she was ready to stay a little longer. Again as the other spot, the small fish were relentless and pecked and nipped at the huge chunchs of skipjack, sometimes even stealing it. I was on teh phone with WLG, they had already gotten off the water and he said that we were in a minor feeding period untill 12:30 so I commited to staying at least that long. 5 mins later, 11:45 or so, I see a rod get burried into the water and hand it to mom. I knew right away it was a freight-train ready to burn the coal. While mom hung on and the fish stayed deep, (I dont think it knew it was hung at this point), we played Chinese fire-drill reaaling up the other 8 rods. During the final couple the fish was under the boat, almost around the motor and back again. Got all the rods in and mom was still trying to turn this fish skyward. It was a good 10, maybe 15 minutes before I saw the big bubbles come up and saw just a gllimps of blueish gray and it went back to the bottom. Around the boat AGAIN, and this time she started making some good progress and when it surfaced, she said it was "big". emoBigSmile It took some more line then the next time I was ready and netted it up. A nice 55lber had called for us today, very nice of him. And keep in mind, this is moms SECOND ever catfish, three weeks ago, she caught the 51lb. What an average!
Lots of pics and loads of slime later we released the beast to fight again and waited aother 20 mins without a real bite and headed for home. Only four landed but not a bad trip!
