Nauticman, Chick., Bass, Crappie, etc., 9/1/10, Alone
#1
Started about 8 am in the Soddy Creek area looking for bass in creek channels, found some good looking images on the Garmin, but no takers. Went to a channel drop and caught 3 LM, one decent spot, several drum and cats, 2 crappie, several yellow bass, 2 bream and a buffalo. Best fish were 3 very chunky LM going 18, 17 and 15.5 in. The Buffalo was 31 in., 20 lbs. One crappie came from 50 ft. deep and his eyes popped out because of the pressure change. They were all caught on jigging spoons and dropshots with Gulp bait mostly 35 ft. deep. Also fished deep and steep rocky area and a couple of docks for crappie and caught about 20, two going 13 in. About half were keepers. BG shad was the lure. They were mostly 20-25 ft. deep. All fish released, except for the pop-eyed crappie which expired and is headed for the frying pan. The flow was 26K cfs and the surface temp was 78 when I got there and 83 when I left.
