Okay I hate to even post this report. The day started late. Don, a friend who had never really been fishing, joined me at the dock around 9:30am. emoGeezer We got a real late start. Beautiful weather and nice breeze. Ran to the nuke with the thought of getting Don into some easy jigging spoon fish but there were none to be found. The big stacked up schools had moved. I couldn't even find much shad. No current and plenty of boats there fishing. No one reeled in anything the whole time we were there. emoScratch So we ran down to a shallow bay and I caught some chunks on a spinnerbait in about 5-9 feet and they slammed the SB. After about 3 fish couldn't buy another bite just hauled water. Went to moving down the bank casting to grass and trees and the bank was full of minners - each cast brought a shower of minnows scattering to get out of the way of lures but no big green fish emoScratch What gives? Decided to run to some ledges and found a few fish stacked up but no big ones and not much action. Stopped at a final ledge and made a long cast and something bumped the bait and then I thought I was hung. I yanked the rod back but the drag had been set too soft (earlier spooning setting) and I felt the fish move but did not know if I had a good hook set. I tightened the drag and yanked again and the fish moved off and pulled the nose of the boat around. My knees were shaking at this point but I did not know what I had. Then it started coming up fast and I was yelling STAY DOWN! while my friend Don was wondering why and what the heck was going on. The fish that busted the surface could have been the one (my goal this year is to catch a 10&#43Wink but as it cleared the water and made a splash like a small child jumping in the water I saw my line and hook flying slow motion through the air as the fish went one way and my line and hook went the other. emoBang emoBang I have met my Moby Dick and I lost! emoBang emoBang Now I know. I can't sleep and I can hardly concentrate anymore during the day. All I can think about is THAT fish! I am going back this weekend and I know the odds of it being there are slim but I can't help it... I hooked him.her? and he/she hooked me. AAAAAAHHHH! I will never be the same! My Mody Dick still swims free and my 10+ Bass goal is still nothing but a goal.. Lots of FLW guys out there that day too. Only spoke to one and he caught mostly small fish and noticed few stacked fish as well. Well time to go to bed and think about everything I should have done but didnt and drift off to sleep haunted by the mouth tail and splash! Tight lines!
