I got on the water by 5am so I could try and see if anything was bitting at night. Not much really. Caught 5 little ones ( all on a buzzbait). Once it got light enough to barely see, I ran down the lake to fish a long grassy point. Decided I would try spook. That was a good move. I caught over 10 on that one point. All of them between 14 and 16 inches. All the top water action died quickly. Started jumping point with a drop shot and shakeyhead. Caught a ton more, but man most of them were barely 12"s. So decided to put the dropshot down . It was fun , but those little ones get on my nerves after a while. Stuck with the shakeyhead for a good long while. Found a nice pattern. Nice shady banks. The fish seemed to be stacked right on breaklines. Caught around 15 more doing this. With most of them being a little bit better fish ( most were in the 15 inch range and were fat.). Picked my dad up at the marina around 10am. Gave him my dropsot rod, showed him how to use it and off we went. Stuck with my shade pattern. Man he had a blast ! He caught a ton of little fish, but added a couple of 2lbers to the mix. I kept with my shakeyhead. Finally I hooked and landed a good one. Weighed 3.90lbs. Not huge, but I'll take it anyday ! What really got me was while I was fighting the fish, there were 6 ( that I saw) bass bigger than the one I caught following her in !!! One looked to be well over 6lbs !! Dad threw his dropshot in near them and managed to get one to bite, but it pulled off .
( it gave him hell while it was hooked though). We called it a day around 2pm. I snapped a picture our biggest one and a picture of my shakeyhead after I lost a huge spot on it. ( it was tore up !!!) Was a great day ! Just wish Parksville didn't have so many little spots. If I get off my lazy a$$, I may post those pictures.
