Nauticman, Chick., Crappie, 9/21/10, Alone
#1
My in-laws wanted some crappie, so I tried for them yestd. I put in at a private ramp at the mouth of Soddy Creek at 8:00 am. I fished vertical and near vertical structure and docks with at least 15 ft. of water in front of them. I was able to get a limit of 11-12.5 in. fish and about a dozen less than 11 in. All in BG's with some glitter on them. Pearl didn't work for me yestd. The crappie were near the bottom, some as deep as 30 ft., I think. The flow was 49 cfs when I started and increased to 32,100 when I left at 1 pm. The water temp started out at 76 and went up to 81. Very little breeze until I left.

Once in a while I catch a crappie whose meat has a yellow/orange tint to it. Anyone know what that means? Ok to eat? Some crappie are already forming eggs.

Before and after crappie fishing, I tried for bass. Saw some promising fish signatures on the graph, but the only things that gobbled up my jigging spoons were yellow bass, catfish and snags.
