I'm sure everyone gets a great memory of a fishing trip once in a while.
Today was my turn for that!
emoApplause

We got in the water shortly after 7:30AM at Shellmound and headed through the light fog to 'ol number 1.
Caught a couple of nice fat feisty slabs right away and I thought it was gonna be a good day for the crappie.

After a while and different lure selections, LM got on board with the crappie.
We were just waiting for the bass to start blasting forage and sure enough they started up.
I was too slow to get right on them, but I found 1 straggler on my silver buddy.
Sure was a slow start emoScratch

Then dragfish showed up and made us get off his hole, so we headed for number 2.
I really was just showing LM the lay of the lake as we, the Marion County Trolls, fish it.
The wind laid down and the sun came out and we tried for crappie first, but then we noticed the bass tearing 'em up.
There were guys on shore running from place to place to catch up with the frenzied action.
One was using a Fluke and I couldn't tell what the others were throwing. emoScratch

After watching the guy pulling fish after fish, I picked up a sexy switchback and got on my first fish there.
My rod was solid and the fish was heavy and I had to play it in.
4lber.
LM said no so we weighed it and it was a fattie.
Throw again and another biggie hits it and now LM is helping net another.
Here we go!!!

Then I get hit and "set the hook" (insert Iaconelli pic here with toothy grimace)
Broke off!! Best lure of the day and I had been retying like a good boy. Well I told LM to please keep an eye open for it to surface haha!
Well indeed in about two minutes I was tying it back on and the bass were in trouble again emoDance

Caught about 25+ fish all much larger than those caught around us and LM jumps in strong after we thought the main frenzy was over!
He is dropping a spoon and catching his monsters on every drop!!
I joined in and the spoon technique became the new pattern.

We were just too wise for them today as we tag teamed beautiful bass to the boat and I started feeling my arm getting sore. I finally broke a hook on releasing a very nice flathead, but we still were catching them as we took turns netting each others fine fish.
emoThumbsup emoThumbsup
I even got a double hook up and we had to take that pic emoLaugh
Those two were the smallest bass caught emoSleepy
We could have had 2 limits worth about 24-25 lbs each!

I think we had 100+ lbs of bass right there.
We had others as well as a greenback shad(skippy?) that was about 17 inches some Alabama smallmouth and that slimer.
I would say we had 15 crappie or so running an average of 12 inches and so fat they looked pregnant!
Tha bass were so wide they looked gorged and the fights were some of the best I have had in so long!
Sometimes all you could do with them was just hold on.

What a blessed day!!!
Thanks for coming along on my boat Norman.
It was a privilege for me to return a favor and fishing with a master class angler made my day one of the best I have had at the Nick in a long long time!! emoCool
