Jmax, Chick, Bass, 10/30/10, Steve Flemming
#1
After the little outing yesterday evening with Colby I decided to go back out and try again this morning. Colby as usual headed for the deer woods with bow in hand so I call Steve who is a Watts Bar angler to see if he wanted to fill my back seat on the Chick. He did and we got to the lake this morning at 7:50. Saw pointer right off launching behind me. Nice morning but foggy and a little cold.

Headed to some flats and I used a blade and Steve a crank. Keeping the boat in about 10 feet we were casting to scattered grass in four to eight feet. Not much happening but I managed a slick. Move from there to another flat just like the first one and first cast caught a nice LM that was 2 lbs 15 ozes. A few later and Steve rares back on one that should have been a four lber but was very poor. emoScratch Tons of shad and this one looked anemic. Appeared to have not eaten in a month. I wieghed it anyways and it was 3 lbs and 1 oz. Feeling a little better now with two going right at 6 lbs. Try as we would we could not catch any other keepers for a while. Around noon we had not managed anymore keepers and I wanted to say we at least caught a limit so we headed for spot country.

With me throwing my usual shakey, Steve went with a drop shot. Steve hooked up first with a big fish. It did not roll or slim but it sounded. Really doubled over his rod and then went on a run. Next thing we know....POW!...line breaks. emoBawl Boys....that was a big one. emoDoh Next one I set back and come in with a nice 1.5 to 1.75 spot. Then we both miss a couple. emoScratch They were hitting but not holding on. Finally Steve rares back again and this time sticks one good. Again it goes on a run and has him doubled over. I catch sight of her and she is a beauty of a smallie. emoEek He works her in and I grab her. She too is very thin. I do not understand why these fish are not feeding more then they are? I measured that fish and it was 19.5 inches. I then wieghed it and it only weighed 2 lbs and 8 ozes. emoMad Like I said...poor.

Moved one last time to another spot place and this time I managed one more spot, a LM and lost two more getting them in. emoDoh They were there but as the rest of today they seemed to not really be eating the bait. We both missed a couple more but by now it was 2 oclock and we called it a day.

Our five keepers would have been about 11.5 lbs so nothing to really brag about but a nice morning for only fishing 6 hours. emoDance Jmax
