Gulf red snapper weekend season set to end
#1
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reminds anglers that this fall's recreational red snapper weekend harvest season in the Gulf of Mexico ends on Nov. 22. Anglers, except for the captain and crew of for-hire vessels, may still keep two red snapper greater than 16 inches total length per person daily this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19-21.

The recreational harvest of red snapper in Gulf state and federal waters off Florida was extended for eight straight three-day weekends beginning on Oct. 1. This added season was made possible because the established recreational harvest quota for these fish was not met during the regular Gulf red snapper season in June and July, due to reduced fishing in the Gulf as a result of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

The 2011 Gulf recreational red snapper season is scheduled to open on June 1. Updated information about red snapper management and regulations is available online at MyFWC.com/Rules (click on "Fishing - Saltwater").
