Hit the Riverpark with Alvin this morning hoping the fall topwater bite would be started. Nope. Only got two spots on top. The fish have just not schooled this year like they have the last 3-4 years.
So we gave up on the topwater bite and decided to hit the banks looking for whatever. Boy did we find it. Everywhere we went today we caught catfish. Blues and channels were out everywhere. Most cats were caught on drop shot powerminnows but got a few on pig n jig. Unreal. Ended up boated 17 blues and 8 channels and lost 5-10 more (average weight was 5 lbs or so). Ended up picking up 7 spots along the way and only got one smallie, a nice 15 incher that killed Alvin pig n jig at the boat as he was reeling it in. Got a drum and google eye to round out the mix.
Prefect weather today. Water temp was 59-60 degrees F.
If you want to have fun or get some kids on some fish, get some Gulp minnows and hit the rip rap. You will have a ball.
