just a tid bit of info about a sporting good store in lehi

as a member of k talk radio and several community services and member of k talks toy drive and the angel tree for needy children we asked the cabelas corp, cabelas store in lehi we asked them to help with 10 children off of the angel trees that were asking for anything fishing like a fishing pole or tackle box
remember these are for kids 8-14 years and the manager and director at cabellas at the corperate office granted the store the ablility to help these kids last week and the other day we got a call to come and pick up the gifts for the angel tree and what we received will shock you remember the distance that cabelas is from salt lake
and the three trips we made in this process.

we arived in the time they set up for us to come by and at that meeting we found out that they were not going to help the very kids that they offered to help and they just said we dont have the budget that we thought we would have
the rep, that we talked to after said he did not understand because they have several of the poles that they give away during utah fishing day left over and they just sit there taking up room he showed us one the price said 9.99 and they maybe paid only 6.00 for them each but instead the desided to snub 10 kids that are in need this christmas and as many of you know what its like to spend a day fishing and the costs that we bear to go fishing i have desided to not give my hard earned $$$$$$$$ to this store from this day on
this is what large companys think about the communities
where they build there stores and want you to give them all your $$$$$$
not anymore

Seems extremely shortsighted on their part. The few bucks that it would have cost them would have been peanuts compared to what the bad publicity is going to cost them in the long run.

That seems really strange to me as well, since they donated over$700 in fishing equipment to the Burbot Bash earlier this year. I know they received a bunch of free advertisment from the Bash. Did you tell them that there was going to be any kind of info on your radio channel about the angle tree, like thanking them for helping? I wonder what changed their minds[:/].

we offered all donners a free interview and we have a page in the news paper listing all the companys that have donated and promote there local stores

and we give them a full half hour interview on the buy back america show so they can promote there stores and products.
yes they have been good in the years past but this case it was approved at the corprate office and the manager at the lehi store turned it down ???? the office did not understand either but the director for the salvation army angel trees was with me and he was very dissapointed to say the least because they said they were sorry about the trip down but they changed there minds we called there corperate offices and they then passed him around and for a good half hour before saying they would check it out

sportsmans has stepped up and helped us out even though they did not have any extra they helped us out with some of what they needed

thank you sportsman's wharehouse

Read a little farther down to tlarson's last post on this thread. Cabelas stepped up and did the right thing, I'm glad that making a phone call can help. Thanks Cabelas, I know the kids will be grateful[Smile].

Glad they did what was right. They told me that they would look into it, and I guess they did.

Things do happen and at times and can cause a person to have to change boats in mid stream, but, for this type of thing to happen to children, yet alone at this time of year by a corperation as large as Cabelas is totally disgusting. The fact Cabelas "stepped up" after the fact, once they faced egg on the faces, only shows me what low lifes they are. This entire ordeal a great example as to why I choose to drive to Provo even though Cabelas is far closer to me.
I personally think this entire event should go national..

I am very glad to read that this worked out and the kids ended up getting "goodies" from two sources (Cableas and Sportsmans) to help make this holiday "nice" for them.
