Dec 27 Winter bank bassin report
#1
Headed out to mead to try out some new gear I picked up over the holiday. Arrived at "the hole" bout 8am. Hiked down to a secluded spot with submerged boulders. Wind was minimal so I decided to bounce a big tube jig around the boulders. Not much surface activity or line bumps. Worked the area well then got a light strike by a small largie. Put up a nice little fight took a pic and threw em back. Worked the same area with the tube jig bounced it once then got inhaled by a big 20" striper. I really thought he was gonna snap my UL stik spolled with 4#. I adjusted the drag and fought what seemed like forever finally landed him, snap some pics and tossed em back. Would of harvested that sucka but didn't have my cooler or stringer. Tried casting some cranks with nothing headed out at noon. Saw one boat in the bay and one bankie soakin some bait near the parking lot questions or comments welcome Smile

Nice report. Just the thing that I needed to motivate me to get out there and do some shore fishing.

Vegaskid - Thanks buddy don't get me wrong I got heavy gear for the acplugs & such. I grew up fishin trout in the northwest all we used was light gear I'm not even gonna get into my 2# stories.

I feel most comfortable with a UL setup. Allows me to cast sm lures and feel light strikes I wouldn't get with my other gear and the fight is always great. To avoid loosing heavier fish I use top quality line n reels.

RealRatFink - Thanks buddy and you better get out there before all the bozos invade the lake warmer temps are around the corner.......well almost.

You are also gonna need all the motivation you can get. I didn't post my previous 2 trips where I got skunked. Winter can be tuff for bank tanglers. Words of advice move often whether fishin bait or lures every 15 mins or so.

Always focus on submerged rock, boulders, humps etc. Fish your lures super slow n deep. Oh yea don't give up either there are nice fish to be had from shore. Good Luck
