striper boils lake powell (report)
#1
hey guy's just got back from lake powell lastnight and had a great time.. no bad wether or any thing going wrong with the boat.. but did lose about 50.00 in top waters.. but thats all the fun right? i cought about 30 smallmouth off points all ovet the lake.. but i just fished for them wile we looked for the striper boils.. then you had to be fast to get on them and get one or two out of it before they went down.. on monday we hit a boil just up from lost lake canyon that lasted over 1 hour we got 20 fish apice and lost to meney top waters to count.and one broken fishing rod (my rod [Sad] ) if you want to get in to some of the most exciting fishing there is try and get down to powell and try some of the boil fishing great fun.. note i was going tell you all the stuff we were useing to get the stripers but it did not mater much any top water you want to use will work,. all the smallmouth i caught was on a swim bait about 3" in smoke and white.. and i did get 2 or 3 trolling for stripers.. all in all a great trip..

Very nice report fuzzy.[Wink] I cant wait to get down there myself in mid october. Was there a time of day that the boils were most frequent or does time of day even play a factor in the stripers boiling. Sounds like you had a great time. We'll have to go out and chase some cats here pretty soon![cool]

Great report fuzzy! I've only been to Powell once, but my experience was very much like yours. I think it's my favorite fishing trip of all time. Who knows when I'll get back there again. Maybe next year.

Here is a picture of a rather large Striper. This picture was sent to Rod Zundell, and it slowly made it's way to me. I do not know the guy in the picture (which is why I hid his face). I hope he is OK with me posting his picture on this forum. There are some reall big stripers in Powell, and I think we can expect many more in the next few years!

Great pics. I can't wait to get down there. Does anyone know how long the striper fishing stays hot?

Nice report and great pics. I have never fished Powell maybe someday. Seeing those pictures makes me want to head out right know. Especially since Willard fishing is tough, and I love fishing with top water. It gets the old heart pumping.

i went by redmond on my way back from fishlake a few months ago. i had one bite that i know was a pike since it ripped my plastic right in half. i dont know too many bass that have ceraited teeth. spelling? haha

would like to just catch one. i dont care if its 10 inches. i get all excited about catching a species i have never tangled with before.

good luck in powell next time you go. i might be goin down in a month or so as well.
