It appears that NPS is going to shut Powell down if the budget does not pass !! No one will be allowed to launch and/or enter the Park. They don't have the money to run the place, but they will have money to have rangers keep people out !!!! How about them apples !! horse apples that is !!!!

well, shutting down is much easier. I would think they just lower the bar at the gate, nobody will be policing in the park. If you can pass the gate, I don't think you'll get caught.

If the shutdown of the Federal government does happen, it will not be a good idea to go around a closure gate at any Federal facility. The law enforcement personnel for the National Park Service will still be on duty and I would imagine they will be enforcing the closure of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Let's all hope the shutdown is avoided or at least doesn't last too long.

My prediction, because of my dumb luck is that it will close from Saturday all the way until the 15th of May. Why you ask? First off that would mean I would miss out on 3 paychecks (military), my house there in Utah will not get sold since the people that are currently under contract are possibly getting an FHA loan, my family/friends and I have our annual Powell houseboat trip the first week of May. Gotta love it!!! The attached picture I thought was fitting for the current "situation"!!!

Agreed, but I don't believe there are mussel inspection facilities/decontamination there, plus no inspector(s).

There is not a gate at Hite or Farley. There's no water at Hite for launching except for VERY small craft and by now that could be impossible. You MIGHT be able to launch a small boat at Farley if you have the courage to drive on the slanted road that leads to the water. Camp spots next to the water at Farley are almost non existent. I wish someone would put the plug back in down there.....
Hope this helps

That's tough TS. But please don't post obscene pictures! That man's leadership is predicted to ultimately cost the US taxpayers $2 trillion on the Iraq mistake alone even if it's ONLY $750 billion so far. Huge part of the reason there is such a large deficit to deal with for the next generation. And yes BO just added another idiotic shovel of dirt with his actions in Libya on top the mountain load of debt G. aWol Bush deposited from Iraq. When will any politician learn. They're all screwing us it's just how much is relative. I predict the Feds will shutdown mainly because the extremists that are threatening to twist the cajones of moderate Republicans lately don't want any compromise and see a shutdown in their interests.

I do too wish they would fill it back up it saves a lot of time for us to motor up from bullfrog in a pontoon loaded the fishing seem better up toward good hope and farleys plus the camping at Farleys used to be awsome. Going down on May 13 hope the Gov agrees by then and its open. [cool]

Theres no gate at Farleys, but it's still part of the NPS, so I would guess it would be off limits as well. Especially since your required to have your boat decontaminated, no one to certify you.
If it is open to access, it will be a nightmare to get in there, since it's pretty well known and like others have said, it's a tight fit down there. The week I spent camped down there, I was one of about 10 other groups and there wasn't much room left for anyone else to camp. Unless they wanted to camp 1/2 mile from the lake.
You gotta love our elected officials, they are all looking after their own self interests in sake of what's best for our country.
I can't believe they will still be getting paid, but our troops are getting the shaft. Most of the troops I personally know live pay check to pay check, I am sure these politicians aren't. Dirty SOB's
TS while I don't think Bush was good for our country, nor Obama for that matter. I am sorry your having to go through all this crap, it sounds like it could be pretty disastrous for you and your family. Hope it turns around fast.

I have a trip planned for thew 14th through the 18th but it sounds like they even patrol the water and kick you off even if you could find a place to launch but since all the launch ramps are in national parks looks like we'll be screwed again this week. [pirate]

We've got a trip planned for the last week of this month, I'm going down regardless if the government is shut down or not. I pay taxes, park pass fees and liscencing, I'll be damned if I'm gonna let them screw my time off because they can't agree on rubbers and morning after pills. We don't need the governments approval to use the natural resources that are rightfully ours! The worst part is that they are hosing the hard working people that actually do the work for the government, soldiers, DWR, city and state workers ect. My heart goes out to you and your families I truly hope they can pull their heads out and quit stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime.
