Build a fishing rod workshop set for April 15-16 at Lake Carlos State Park
#1
A two-day, fishing-rod-building workshop will be offered at Lake Carlos State Park near Alexandria on April 15-16. The event will run from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

With the fishing opener only a month away, participants will create custom graphite, six-foot medium-spinning rods. Jeremy Schneider, an expert rod-builder, will provide rod blanks and demonstrate how to insert eyelets and bung, how to attach a cork handle, and how to customize the rod with a unique thread wrap.

To register for the workshop or for more information, call the park naturalist at 320-852-7200 by Thursday, April 14. The cost of the workshop, which includes all materials, is $70. Class size is limited to 10 people age 16 and older. Refreshments will be provided, and participants should bring a lunch for Saturday.

A vehicle permit ($5 for a one-day permit or $25 for a year-round permit) is required to enter the park and can be purchased at the park office.

Lake Carlos State Park is located 10 miles north of Alexandria. From State Highway 29, go two miles west on Highway 38 to reach the park entrance. The workshop will take place at the park visitor center.
