Hook Selection size
#1
Ok I am having trouble looking for the right hooks, according to videos and other fishermen, a offset 4/0 size hook is good for soft plastics. Is this true? Please post pictures of what is a good hook for about 1-5lb bass.

Hello Edgy779,
Yea a 4/0 hook is good for the right application (big plastic, very large fish) I fish for large and smallmouth bass with 3" - 3.5" grubs and 3" - 4" tubes hooked weedless. I use a 1/0 Gamakatsu Offset Round Bend Hook.

They are so thin and penatrate easily. If you want to get most of the fish that bite, this would be a good choice...

I'll use those Gami hooks for Roboworms or similar but I like a 3/0 or 4/0 Extra Wide Gap for most plastics like Senkos or Brush hogs. It allows room for the plastic to go down in the bend to get a good hook set.

I totally agree with you. I believe that the wide gaps are alot better for fishing plastics due to the extra room that the gap gives you for the bait to slide down.

Most of the time i will use 3/0 and 4/0 hooks for most plastics. Now if im using big plastic swimbaits i will will use 5/0 extra widegap hooks. Why? well because the plastic on those are often alot thicker and you want that hook to have the room for the bait to slide down.

To make a long story short there really is no magic hook for every application. You need to match you hook to your bait. Hope this helps [Smile]
