SUMMIT COUNTY WILDLIFE VOLUNTEER TRAINING
#1
Summit County Wildlife Volunteer Training

FRISCO, Colo. - Do you love animals and have time to volunteer? The Colorado Division of Wildlife is encouraging people to dedicate their time and effort by serving on the Summit County Wildlife Transport and Bear Aware teams. The Division will hold team-member training, Sunday, May 22 in the Buffalo Mountain Room at the Summit County Commons.

Wildlife Transport Team

The Wildlife Transport Team helps by responding when the Division receives reports of injured or orphaned wildlife. Volunteers are often first on the scene and, if it becomes necessary, are responsible for transporting animals to rehabilitators, veterinarians or to the Division office. Capture and transport equipment will be provided, but volunteers are required to have a dependable and appropriate vehicle.

"Wildlife Transport Team members have to love both wildlife and people. They are the face of the Division of Wildlife when a member of the public calls about baby ducks or an injured raptor. Their time and efforts are very important to the Colorado Division of Wildlife, the public and wildlife in Summit County," said District Wildlife Manager Shannon Schwab.

The training will include an introduction to equipment, how to handle wildlife transport calls, scenarios that will help develop wildlife knowledge as well as learning how to answer common questions posed by the public.

Bear Aware<br />
Bear Aware is one of the Division's most successful volunteer programs, and continues to grow in membership and effectiveness. In Summit County, as in other areas throughout the state, Division trained Bear Aware volunteers provide residents and visitors with information about bear behavior, proper trash handling and eliminating other bear attractants.

"Bear conflicts continue to be a problem for many residents of Colorado, and Bear Aware volunteers are very important in our attempts to help people learn to live with wildlife," said District Wildlife Manager Sean Shepherd. "We need volunteers and hope to see a good turnout."

Volunteers are encouraged to call the Hot Sulphur Springs office to RSVP, and learn how they can make a difference in the community.
