just venting, OT
#1
Hey folks,

I'm just using this to help sooth myself so you don't need to respond. Something is wrong with my best friend and companion and I'm worried. Bud has been to the vet and had a blood work up and he is perfectly normal but he continues to have episodes of sever lethergy, not eating, drinking and sometimes just stands with his head down. It tears me up!!!!

I know, what can you guys say. I'm just venting.

I think we call all related to your plight. I'm assuming your dog has a liitle age to him? When I was a single man 20 odd years ago, I had a wiemerimer/shorthair cross that was a hunting fool. His name was Kiabab. He went everywhere and did everything with me. Better company than most people and alway glad to see me. Well to make a long story short, age caught up with him and he started having problems and then mother nature took her course...

I can relate. Hang in there. I know how you can get attached to them dogs. Why do we do that? Pretty easy question to answer, ain't it? I know you didn't expect a response but I couldn't help it. Good Luck with your friend.

Hey Leaky,

How old is Bud? There are a ton of ailments out there that can affect both humans and dogs. For example, Diabetes, Cushings syndrome, hypo/hyper thyroidism, and others. What kind of tests did your vet run? Many of these problems are treatable, and with proper treatment can get Bud back to his old self. I'm very familiar with lab values for humans, but my animal skills are not very proficient. If you drop me a line with what labs were done, I could make some suggestions on others. Good luck, and I hope Bud gets feeling better.

Hi again,

I'm sorry about the posting, Didn't really intend on dumping on you folks. Probably subconsiously looking for sympathy, not cool! Now that I posted--------.

Bud is about the same, maybe a hair better? Got some water, bread, pieces of milk bone into him but he still up-chucks flem, etc. Just isn't comfotable, stands. lays around, walks around, etc. I kind of think it's some kind of intestinal problem.???? He poos, but not much there.?

Other question posed with answers.- He's 6 1/2 yrs!!! He had a full blood work-up, thyroid, electrolisis, etc., temp., heart, intestinal tract pain/lumps to the feel, structure/pains, etc. normal!!!???

I personally think he has some kind of intestinal irriation/blockage and will just watch and see until tomorrow. All the deseases seem to not fit, so hopefully its something that will pass.??

Needless to say, we probably won't be going to Jordanelle tomorrow!

just a suggestion... on the farm when we have our working/hunting dogs having digestive problems we've always given them some mineral oil. you can buy it by the gallon at IFA its cheep it only takes about an ounce and make sure he or she is outside because it works fast at cleaning their system out.

My kerr got ran over by a horse trailor and I'm sure it bruised some ribbs because he was hobbling around like an old woman for about a week and he didn't have a bowell movement in a week so I gave him some mineral oil and within an hours time he had cleaned his system out and was on his way to recovery.

it also may help with worms and other parasites that can live in them.

Just trying to help ole bud DZ

That sounds familiar, I had a basset hound that loved his tennis balls, wound up with an intestinal obstruction, the vet had me feed him only mashed potatoes until he was able to pass it, I'm no vet by any means so I'd follow the vet's guidelines, just telling what our vet did for the old boy.

I have a 17 month old black lab and we had a very tramatic situation about 3 months ago. She stopped eating, and when she would she would throw it back up. She went down to 36 lbs. I thought she was a goner, took her to the vet thinking Parvo or something, he said it could be that or shifted bowls, or an obstruction in the stomach. after 4 hours of tests and a 8 inch insertion into her stomach out came a 2 1/2 inch in diameter whole bouncy ball!!! She is great now!!!

Leaky, I may be a little late on the posting but I definetley feel you and the love we carry for dogs. There is not a more loyal creature on gods green earth. what other animal do you see on tv shows "animal cops or what ever" and you see these dogs starving to death but cant wait to go back to the same people that or killing them.

As for your dog if he is not feeling better can i recamend my vet. I know changeing vets or even talking to another one is like changing faiths but if leakys helth is not good and they cant figure it out, you have to do what you can to keep your best friend around.

I take my pets to brickyard animal hospital in salt lake city. They have always been great with our pets since I was tweleve and have even had some things they could not figure out at first either but they are defenitley the type of place that will not give up untill they figure it out. Give them a call if you want they hands down the best out there.

Fred, my friend, there are no words that could ever erase the pain you are feeling at this time. Let me just assure you that you have my heartfelt sympathies across the miles.

As a dog lover, myself, I have long treasured something I found on the web one day. It kind of expresses how we really feel about those special pets...the ones that are more family than animal. I have attached it at the bottom.
