Grouse Report (Obviously NOT a fishing related post!!!
#1
Well,

I got a chance to go out grouse hunting on Sat. Went up above Heber towards the Timberlakes area, continued on Past the Currant Creek turnoff. Ended up in Coop Creek by Strawberry. Got out and hunted in an area of the Center Creek turnoff, but didn't see anything. On the way way, stopped in Daniels Canyon and went up one of the side canyons. We saw one blue grouse after a steep hike, and bagged im. What a tasty treat. Going to eat him tonight. Hope to get out again soon and hopefully see more than one!!!

Cat Man,
As long as were off the subject, did you happen to see any moose on your grouse hunting trip?

I took my youngest boy out Grouse hunting this year. We camped up Squaw creek (by Strawberry) and hunted up on the Strawberry ridge. We found a patch of pines near the top and when we was no more than 60 yrd in the pines we had a Ruff fly from a pine to a spot 50 years in front of us. We walked maybe another 10 yrds and my boy spotted 1 up on a log. I looked and there was 5 right in that area. We walked closer and more was flying out of the trees. They were everywhere!!! I had three within 12 minutes and my boy wanted to shoot the last one with his bb gun. We chased one on the ground for maybe 40 yards, him shooting at it any chance he got. It finally flew up into a tree he shot again and with a little help from dad ( i told him i missed) he was able to claim his 1st grouse. This was the best grouse hunt I have ever been. Boy they sure taste good. I hope that after the Muzzleloader I can get back up there.

Take a kid fishing and hunting you will build memories that will last a life time.

Unfortunately I didn't see any moose, deer, elk, or anything. I did see a bunch of what my dad calls "white faced elk" (Cattle) Yippee. [unsure]

Hey kidsnme, congratulations on the successful hunt. The biggest success was the memories you built with your son. I can't wait to have kids to take out and teach about wildlife and fishing and hunting.

2 years ago when I was helping my dad on the bow hunt by pushing deer, south of Strawberry, we came across a huge group of ruffed grouse too. We kicked out one after another and then a dozen or more at once all flew out of the bushes! If it were hunting season, and I had my shotgun, I probably could have fired 2 shots and got my 4 birds!

I run into grouse all the time on top of Wolf Creek pass!!! During the deer hunt, I usually see about 30-50 the entire week. I am going scouting later this week, I guess I will have to pack my grouse gun for some dinner time fun!!!

Absolutely!! Anytime you're going to be out, bring along the shotgun! Even if you're just going hiking somewhere. Never know when there will be dinner waiting for you on the trail! Yummmm!
