I had great success using plastic crayfish but i was curious if you could catch and use live crayfish from the lake. Or is this alright if it is an inch or under in dimension ?

Every state is different about useing live bait. Call your state DEP or a conservation officer to get a good answer.

Not sure if you are talking about the dimensions of the soft plastic bait, or the actual crawdad... If it is the imitation, actual size isn't that important in my experience. I have a mold for a crawfish imitation, 3 different styles of 3" - 4" grubs and now am making my own tubes. They seem to hit them all equally as well, but here lately they are hitting on the tubes hooked weedless better than anything. Have a good one. LBD

Assuming you are talking about Pineview reservior Utah you can use live crayfish as long as you catch them there and do not take them from that body of water alive.
From the 2011 Utah Regulations: "You may only use live crayfish for bait if you are on the water where the crayfish were captured. It is unlawful to transport live crayfish away from the water where they were captured." Same thing, just worded different. [signature]
