Canyon Lake /Guadalupe River Guide Report
#1
CANYON LAKE: Water gin clear; 76 degrees; 909.50':
Largemouth are very good on an early morning and late
evening shallow water bite. Bass behavior is altering. Rather than deepwater cover in trees and rockpiles where a slower, more methodical presentation with soft plastics on Texas or Carolina rigs or drop shot finesse lures was necessary for success, shallow water feeding activity has begun along initial dropoffs in close to banklines early. With water temperatures dropping further into the 70's with each passing cold front largemouth and Guadalupe Bass will continue to follow shad out of deep water of channels to feed up shallower in 2'-6' where motion baits (faster moving lures) will be more productive and more fun. Cooling surface temperatures drives shad shallow and the instincts of bass are to begin a migration toward feeder creeks where the fall feeding frenzy will take place. Working in
and around bank-shallow stumps and stickups using a white 7/16 oz. Terminator tungsten spinnerbait (www.terminatorlures.com), Rat-L-Traps(www.rat-l-trap.com), 4" or 5" "Christmas Tree" Whacky Stick (www.cremelure.com), blue flake Senkos (www.canyonlakefishing.com) and 2" or 3" plastic swimbaits are producing. Pitching a watermelon Bush Pig*, 3/16 oz. Falcon jig(www.falconlures.com) with matching a Uncle Josh pork trailer(www.unclejosh.com) tight to standing timber along breaklines produces if/when cloud cover fails you and the sun breaks through.

Smallmouth are good and getting more active in 5'-15' over points and along bluff banklines on 3" rootbeer/green grubs, Sliding Weight Finesse Craw Fish(www.slidingweight.com) and pearl Whacky Sticks (www.cremelure.com) or Senkos. The peak of activity for
smallies will be when water temps. fall below 70 degrees which is usually from late Oct. to early Nov.

Stripers are improving along mainlake points in 12'-25' at first light on threadfin Rat-L-Traps and topwaters. When the shallow water action slows follow the fish deeper using electronics to track the school of baitfish while vertically jigging 1/2 oz. Pirk Minnows and/or white/silver
Hyper Striper jigs (www.kgenterprise.com) with trailers. Topwater action at first light under birds in 50' on Pirk Minnows and Red Fins.

White Bass are fair along sloping points until full light on Tiny Traps, 1/4 oz. Pirk Minnows and 2" clear/blue back Spoiler Shad.
